This term, the year five students are exploring the concept of Social Justice. They will further develop their understanding of fairness and justice, through their investigation of human rights issues, both past and present. They will study incidents of racial discrimination throughout time, including historical events from past Olympic Games. They will also learn about Social Justice issues relating to Gender, Disability and Age and will communicate their knowledge, feelings and opinions through a variety of speaking activities such as group discussions, informal debates, interviews and prepared arguments. They will also contribute articles/feature articles to a class book on Social Justice that we will donate to the library. By opening our minds to the injustices in our world, we hope to open our hearts and look at ways we can address inequities in our own community.
