Holy Family Resource Centre

The Holy Family Resource Centre aims to provide each child with access to the most suitable and up to date reading materials and resources in a welcoming environment.

General Information
Hours 8.15- 3.30 Monday to Friday

Circulation Students are able to borrow in a half hour class time each week. We encourage the use of a library bag in the lower classes to protect our resources.

Students are able to borrow before and after school Monday to Thursday.
The Resource Centre is open at lunchtimes Monday to Thursday for all children who wish to complete school tasks, improve computer skills, access information resources, play board games, learn new craft or game skills or general quiet social time when needed.
Computers must be booked by children who need to complete school work in the morning before school.

Promotion of Reading: Reading for pleasure is an important element of the Resource Centre Program.  Visits by authors and illustrators are organized throughout the year.
Library buddies, Readers Cup and a focused literature unit for all year levels in Term Three.

Timetable: All 16 classes have a half or one hour block where the Resource Centre and Computers are available for their use. An additional period is available for personal borrowing.

Computers: We use Oliver web-based software to manage the Resources.
Children are encouraged to use the OPAC terminals when borrowing resources.
Children are introduced to a fully multimedia approach to learning through the growing selection of information resources.
The Resource Centre has a bank of 16 computers that teachers of all year levels utilize as a tool for their integrated learning activities.
Software packages are used to help younger children develop an understanding of how a computer works through carefully graduated programs.

Robotics: LEGO MINDSTORMS  is a lego program that integrates robotics and programming. It is the ideal hands-on tool for helping students learn about maths, science and computer programming and design.

Through its resources, services and facilities the Resource Centre provides opportunities for all students to develop their learning skills and styles.
